Northern Lights tours Tromsø · Winter 2026/2027
Not another Northern Lights chase. A small-group journey from Tromsø to a private basecamp overlooking Malangen Fjord.
A different Northern Lights experience
Many Northern Lights tours are built around filling a bus. Ours is built around giving six guests time, space and a real place to arrive.
We combine a flexible Northern Lights search with an unhurried evening at ACIN's private basecamp in Meistervik. You cross the mountain landscape, follow the weather with two guides and spend meaningful time beside Malangen Fjord - not beside a crowded roadside stop.
With no more than six guests, you are seen, heard and included. There is room for conversation, quiet and individual attention.
A small Mercedes minivan can respond to changing cloud cover and stop where a full-size coach cannot. The evening follows conditions, not crowd logistics.
Your journey leads to a private fjord retreat with warmth, shelter and activities. The experience retains its value even when the Aurora stays quiet.
Your six-hour journey
We depart Tromsø at 18:00 and return at approximately midnight. The route and timing remain flexible because Arctic weather never follows a script.
Meet outside Scandic Ishavshotel and settle into our comfortable Mercedes minivan. One guide drives while both host, guide and look after the group.
We leave Tromsø, cross wild mountain country and monitor clouds, stars and Aurora activity. When conditions invite us to stop, a small group gives us the freedom to do so.
At the private basecamp, the pace changes. Step into the log cabin, gather around the fire, explore with snowshoes or watch the sky from the terrace and glass igloo.
Travel back through the winter night after an evening shaped by the landscape, the weather and the people sharing it with you.
Your private Malangen basecamp
Our log cabin draws on Northern Norway's thousand-year tradition of building with timber: solid, warm and shaped for life in a demanding climate.
Outside, a 112 m² terrace opens towards Malangen Fjord and the mountain horizon. Inside, the sauna and fire offer warmth without separating you from the night.

See the place before you arrive
This is the real ACIN basecamp in winter: a handcrafted cabin, an Aurora glass igloo and the quiet landscape that becomes your destination for the evening.
Luxury, Northern Norwegian style
For us, luxury is not keeping nature at a distance. It is having the time and comfort to experience it properly.
It is a small group instead of a full coach. Two present guides instead of an amplified announcement. A private cabin and fjord view instead of a brief roadside stop. A fire you can help tend. Snow you can walk through. A night that does not need to be staged to feel extraordinary.
Inside the Aurora glass igloo
The transparent igloo lets the snow, forest and Arctic sky remain part of the evening. Step outside when you wish - or watch the changing night from a sheltered, intimate space.

Gather on the terrace in an insulated thermal suit, enjoy a hot drink and share simple hot dogs around the fire.
Try snowshoes, help clear fresh snow or simply step into the stillness. Participation is always optional.
Use the glass igloo, cabin or terrace as your base while keeping the Arctic sky and fjord close.
What this gives you
The conventional format
Large groups require large stopping places, fixed logistics and time spent waiting for everyone to move together. The lowest price often comes with the least personal space.
The ACIN alternative
Six guests, two guides, a flexible minivan and a private fjord basecamp give you more attention, more comfort and an experience that remains worthwhile in every kind of sky.
Northern Lights season 2026/2027
The Northern Lights Fjord Retreat departs from Scandic Ishavshotel in Tromsø at 18:00 and lasts approximately six hours.
Autumn offers darkening evenings and open landscapes. Midwinter brings snow, deep Arctic darkness and the atmosphere of the polar night. By March and early April, longer twilight returns while the Northern Lights season continues. Every month is different; no night can be repeated.
Choose your experience
The setting is the same. The difference is whether you share it with a few like-minded travellers or keep the evening entirely to yourselves.

Northern Lights Fjord Retreat FAQ
Clear answers about group size, the Aurora, clothing, facilities and private bookings for the 2026/2027 season.
The open-seat Northern Lights Fjord Retreat is limited to a maximum of six guests. The small group allows personal attention, flexibility and a calm atmosphere throughout the six-hour evening.
Two guides accompany every departure. One is responsible for driving, while both contribute to hosting, safety, local insight and the Northern Lights experience.
No. We search for favourable conditions during the journey, but the evening also has a real destination: ACIN's private basecamp beside Malangen Fjord. The log cabin, glass igloo, terrace and activities make this more than a roadside Aurora stop.
No responsible tour operator can guarantee the Aurora. Visibility depends on solar activity, cloud cover and local weather. Our guides follow the conditions and adapt the journey when useful, but sightings can never be promised.
The experience remains an Arctic fjord retreat. You still have the mountain journey, basecamp, glass igloo, cabin, fire, warm drinks and seasonal activities. The Northern Lights are an extraordinary possibility, not the only value of the evening.
The complete tour lasts approximately six hours. Time at the basecamp varies with weather, road conditions and Northern Lights opportunities along the route, giving the guides freedom to make the best use of the evening.
Wear warm base layers, winter trousers, a warm jacket, hat, gloves and winter footwear. Insulated thermal suits are available for additional warmth. Arctic temperatures and weather can change quickly.
Hot dogs and warm drinks are included. The meal is deliberately simple, warm and informal - well suited to a social Northern Norwegian evening by the fire. Tell us about dietary requirements before departure.
The basecamp includes an indoor sauna and outdoor DROP jacuzzi. Use depends on the evening's program and practical conditions. Please advise us in advance and bring swimwear if you would like to use them.
Yes. The complete six-hour experience costs NOK 18,900 per private group. Couples may travel in our Porsche Cayenne Electric, while larger private groups can use the Mercedes minivan. The private option gives you complete privacy and greater flexibility.
